No perimeter wire does not mean no requirements
A virtual boundary replaces one installation task. It does not tell you how the mower knows where it is, whether it needs a service connection, or whether it can travel between your lawn areas. Treat “wire-free” as the beginning of the comparison.
We compare manufacturer documentation here, not our own field tests. The useful question is what the specific machine needs at your property, rather than which technology sounds most advanced.
Four navigation approaches in this shortlist
| Model | Documented approach | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| LUBA 2 AWD 5000HX | RTK with vision | Antenna installation, sky visibility and package contents. |
| LUBA 3 AWD 3000 | LiDAR, NetRTK and vision | Exact service conditions and capacity of this version. |
| Worx WR340 | Cloud RTK with vision/V-SLAM | Available coverage at the mowing address. |
| Navimow i215 LiDAR | LiDAR and vision | Installation limits, pathways and service details for i215 itself. |
These descriptions identify the primary combinations advertised for the US models. They do not guarantee behavior when a sensor or service becomes unavailable. Ask for the model’s documented fallback behavior if that issue matters to your property.
Inspect the route, not just the open grass
Think through a complete trip from charging station to the farthest part of the lawn. Note narrow gates, transitions over paving, steep edges and separate front/back areas. A machine that works on the main lawn may still need manual relocation if there is no supported route to a second zone.
Check a passage requirement in the installation instructions. The machine’s body width alone is not a proven minimum passage width. Allowing it to fit physically does not establish reliable navigation or safe clearance.
Draw the dock location and nearby power supply on your sketch. Check the required clear space and how the mower reaches the dock. A convenient socket is not enough if the charging position violates the model’s instructions.
Separate navigation from remote-control subscriptions
A cellular plan can support remote controls or theft alerts; a correction service can support positioning. They are not automatically the same product. If a free period ends, ask which functions stop, what continues locally, and what renewal costs for your exact model.
The Navimow i215 page currently contains a service block naming X430/X450. We do not assign those periods to i215. Mammotion’s LUBA 3 page also needs clarification of service wording before we could promise lifetime-free ownership.
Read the cost checklist before using “no subscription” as a deciding claim.
Choose the size before comparing technologies
The i215 is a smaller-lawn candidate; LUBA 3 3000 is not a full-acre mower. Choose among models that meet the area and cutting-height requirements first, then use navigation constraints to narrow them down.
For a full acre, start with this comparison. For a smaller garden, the main buying guide includes direct product destinations for the 3000 and i215. We may earn from qualifying purchases through these affiliate links.
